Some Handy Tips to Help You Keep Looking YoungBy Dave H Clark
We all would like to keep age away, if we had a choice. One can slow down the process of aging the natural way. Anti-aging experts blame premature aging on our way of life. Here is what the anti-aging experts have to say.
Stress: They say that stress lowers the immune system, promotes heart problems and keeps blood pressure unduly high. Do some deep diaphragmatic breathing regularly to manage stress levels. Most things we worry about happening do not happen; and most things we worry about not happening happen. So, stop worrying and live a stress-free existence.
Inactivity: Inactivity slows down normal body functions. Even a little bit of exercise can extend our lives and keep us relatively healthy. Avoid elevators and climb stairs. Walking 30 minutes briskly, five days a week is a good aerobic exercise.
Alcohol: Excessive intake of alcohol can lead to cirrhosis of the liver. However, the good news is that one or two drinks a day can lower the risk of heart disease.
Smoking: Smoking leads to cancer and early wrinkling of the skin. About 20% of U.S. adults smoke. Nicotine gum and patch work better in helping smokers reduce cigarette intake.
Air-pollution: Outdoor air pollution is responsible for promoting respiratory problems, asthma and burning of eyes. Keep indoors to avoid outdoor pollution.
Excess weight: As an anti-aging measure, adopt a plan to restrict your weight. Excess weight enhances the risk of heart problems and diabetes. Experts say that it is more important to continue with the diet you choose. Discontinuing it takes you back to square one.
Sleep well: Lack of sleep is believed to cause diabetes, high blood pressure and memory problems. 'Sleep well', say anti-aging activists and doctors. Keep TVs and other distractions out of your bedrooms.
Sugar excesses: Excessive sugar intake leads to weight gain, diabetes and heart problems. Limit sugar intake in your diet if you are keen on following the anti-aging regimen. Rely more on fruits and sweet vegetables for your sugar requirements.
Sun-exposure: More than a million people in the U.S. get skin cancer every year and about half of them have melanoma, a life threatening disease. Avoid the sun when it is at its brightest and apply sunscreens with an SPF of at least 15 when moving outdoors.
